Day 1 - COLOMBO
Arrive at the airport, meet and greet and transfer to Colombo. After
lunch, city tour of Colombo. Dinner and overnight stay at the Galle
Face Hotel Colombo.
Day 2 - KANDY
After an early breakfast, leave for Pinnawela to see the Elephant orphanage.
Later proceed to kandy enroute visiting a spice garden and batik factory.
After lunch city tour of Kandy visiting the Kandy Market, Kandy upper
lake drive, Gem museum, Arts & Crafts Centre, Peradeniya Botanical
Gardens and the famous Dalada Maligawa (Temple of the Tooth). In the evening
watch a Kandyan dance and cultural show. Dinner and overnight at the Queens
hotel (or similar) in kandy.
Day 3 - NUWARA ELIYA
After an early breakfast leave for the Knuckles mountains. The Knuckles
Mountain range lies east of Kandy and looms 6,112 feet above the Dumbara
valley. After a picnic lunch on the range, leave for Nuwara Eliya, enroute
visiting tea factory. Dinner and overnight at Galway
Forest Lodge (or similar) in Nuwara Eliya
Day 4 - NUWARA ELIYA
After early breakfast, leave by jeep for Horton Plains. Perhaps the
most awesome and forbidding region of Sri Lanka, these plains are located
on a high windswept saddle at 7,000 feet elevation. Black eagles, Blue
Magpies and other rare birds are found here. Picnic Lunch on the plains.
Return to Nuwara Eliya for dinner and overnight at Galway
Forest Lodge (or similar)
Day 5 - HAMBANTOTA
After breakfast, proceed to Hakgala gardens. The gardens opened in
1860 as an experimental cinchona plantation, now prides itself in its rows
of roses and ferns. Later leave for Yala National Park, enroute stopping
at Tissamaharama for lunch. Evening safari at Yala. Yala is famous for
its Elephants but in recent years Leopard and Bear too have been spotted
with increasing frequency. Transfer to Peacock
Beach Hotel, Hambantota (or similar) for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 - EMBILIPITIYA
Early morning visit to the Bundala bird sanctuary. Return to hotel
for late breakfast. Later proceed to Embilipitiya for lunch. Afternoon
visit the Uda Walawe Sanctuary. Dinner and overnight at Embilipitiya.
Day 7 - RATNAPURA
After breakfast leave by jeep for a visit to the Sinharaja Forest,
Sri Lanka's last remaining primeval rain forest. A single faint footpath
cuts through the heart of its 50 sq. miles. Rare Orchids blossom and cicadas
chirp. Proceed to Ratnaloka Inn , Ratnapura for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 8 - BEACH RESORT / DEPARTURE
After breakfast proceed to selected beach resort or departure transfer
to Airport. |
