Passikudah

Passikudah is an idyllic coastal village situated on the east coast of Sri Lanka, about 40 km from Batticaloa. Famous for its undisturbed pristine coastline, clear blue waters and golden sands, Passikudah beach is one of the prettiest in the world, and a highly sought-after destination. Over the past few years, Passikudah has developed into one of Sri Lanka’s tourist areas, with several hotels situated along its beautiful bay.

The crescent shaped bay consists of shallow water, and is protected by a reef that runs across it. This makes it one of the safest stretches of coastline in the east, which is perfect for swimming – you can wade out 50 m out to sea! The reef has exquisite coral formations and schools of colourful tropical reef fish, which can be enjoyed thoroughly while snorkelling. There are also opportunities to go on boat rides and fishing. Enjoy panoramic views of beaches that are dotted with palm trees whilst walking through soft and smooth white sand.

From Passikudah you can visit various attractions that Batticaloa has to offer, including the historic Dutch Fort and the gorgeous Batticaloa Lagoon. There are several islands within the lagoonthat are worth visiting. There are also some excellent spots here for diving enthusiasts, such as a WW2 British naval ship. Passikudah is one of the closest beaches to the Cultural Triangle in Sri Lanka – it takes an hour to reach the ancient city of Polonnaruwa, which is famous for its ruins dating back several centuries.

There are spectacular hotels located in Passikudah, most of which are situated on the Passikudah Bay which have easy access to the spectacular warm water. We recommend Maalu Maalu, Amaya Passikudah, Anilana Passikudah and Uga Bay for exquisite beach holidays for the entire family.
