The Far East Region focusses on the Gal Oya National park and Arugambay on the Eastern Coast.
Arugambay is widely regarded as one of the best surf spots in Sri Lanka and is located just south of the town of Pottuvil on the East coast. The area has a number of beach front guesthouses and small hotels and the main surfing season runs between May and October.
Gal Oya National Park is probably the most untouched of all national parks. It is home to Sri Lanka’s largest natural lake and is famous for spotting wildlife on a boat safari on the lake. This gives a unique and special perspective whilst watching animals as they come to the water’s edge to drink and forage along the shore.
